Is Robbie Williams Gay?

As the courts found in the recent libel case, no, Robbie Williams is not gay.

Mr Shields said Mirror Group Newspapers, publishers of
the People, and Northern & Shell now accepted that none of the
allegations was true.

He added: "Mr Williams is not and never has been homosexual.’

The interesting question to me is whether stating that someone is (or is not) homosexual is indeed libel. Haven’t we rather got beyond regarding that aspect of sexuality as something "wrong" or "evil" or, to be accurate about libel, as something which is damaging to one’s reputation?

    The libellous allegation wasn’t that RW was gay; it was that he was secretly gay, and lying about it by pretending to be straight.

    Surely the point is Robbie Williams’ career (well at least since the early days of Take That) has been aimed at young woman, and on the grounds that he is heterosexual, and if it’s all a pretence it’s kind of fraudulent?

    I worked for The Face during the Jason Donovan trial, and it was a similar problem there. Is saying someone’s homosexual libellous? The Problem for The Face owners was that they had a substantial gay readership, and so had great difficulty revealing the information that had led to the original story without appearing to be ‘out’ to get gays. Eventually, they had to settle for appearing to lose while not publishing the photos they had, and getting lots of sympathetic publicity.

    In today’s society I’d think it wasn’t wrong to “accuse” someone of being gay, but you can still get arrested for calling a police horse a pooftah.

    He was outed like 6 years ago when he was caught dating that writer Zachary Zilba. If I remember right it was discussed on Radio 1 and Rob was hush about it because he was trying to do an American crossover with his music. If you ever heard that the best secrets are most closely kept well this is one of them cause THIS IS the relationship he is suing the Star over, they just couldn’t name the Zilba guy who actually is too pretty to be a dude anyway, some earthy new age writer who looks female. he’s totally gay.
