They Would Say That.

Remember a day or two back there was a report about how children looked after by their mothers did best? Vastly better than those in nurseries? The response today from the Equal Opportunities Commission:

Research suggesting that it is better for mothers to stay at home to look after children up to the age of three is sexist and mistaken, the Equal Opportunities Commission said yesterday.
It said there was no reason why the father could not look after the
children rather than the mother. It also said that full-time working
mothers whose children were looked after in day nurseries or by child
minders or nannies had perfectly "healthy and happy" offspring.

In short, it must be wrong because our worldview states that it is. Dpn’t worry about that silly evidence stuff, just listen to us.

  1. This was a classic example of why this quango should be shut down.
No-one is even allowed to research into anything that might come up with a sexist or racist result.
To think the Left used to claim it had science on its side.

No, it’s actually a pretty good summary of what the research itself said, which is rather different from the spin put on it by the newspapers.

  3. It’s clearly a terrible thing to suggest that men may be capable of providing perfectly good parenting as then the pressure and guilt can be placed on them equally by the media, rather than be shouldered by women alone.
If I were male I’d be really pissed off at the sexist assumptions that children’s welfare had nothing to do with me and was entirely dependent on their mother’s choice of care arrangements.
