TEBAF Margot Rides Again!

The Ever Blessed and Fragrant (TEBAF) Margot Wallstrom manages to explain one of the great mysteries of life in her most recent blog post. How did she get her job?

Now I agree that it is a little unfair to take to task those for whom English is a second (or third?) language for their use of it but she does appear willing to lecture us on the etymology of the word idiot. According to her it is one who does not use their vote, according to my dictionary it is one who does not hold public office (from the Ancient Greek). Which is slightly revealing from one who does hold such office, don’t you think?

The grand explanation?

The glass ceiling (or a sticky floor) prevents competent women from being promoted.

Which rather means that the converse must be true, that those women who do get promoted are incompetent.

Thus Margot’s job on a quarter million a year of our euros.

Nice to know how these things happen, isn’t it?

    You say (and quote):
The glass ceiling (or a sticky floor) prevents competent women from being promoted.
Which rather means that the converse must be true,
er, no it doesn’t. A glass ceiling that prevents one sort of thing from getting through doesn’t automatically allow the opposite (which would be incompetent men) from getting through.
Although, now that I mention incompetent men, there are a fair number of them in high places…
Tim adds: Tsk, tsk, try the logic this way. The x prevents competent women from getting there. Thus the existence of x means that those women who do get there are not competent.
