A report out from the Portman Group:
Almost four in 10 young women claim to have been sexually assaulted
after getting drunk, according to research by the drink industry’s
watchdog.
It’s slightly difficult to know what is meant here. "Sexual assault"? Rape? An aggressive proposition? A dodgy chat up line? As is pointed out:
There was no definition of "sexual assault" in the report.
The Groan (of course!) carries the same report:
More women than men, 34% to 24%, said they had unplanned or unprotected sex,
??
Unless there’s a vastly larger gay population than I thought the numbers of men and women who have unprotected sex should be roughly equal. As, indeed, should those who have unplanned sex….assuming that planned means that both parties had planned upon it which seems a reasonable description of "planning".
Either there’s something I’ve missed or the numbers themselves are off.
(I suppose that blokes could be going out with the idea "I’m going to get laid tonight" "Who with?" "Dunno yet" but can we really describe that as planning? Or, again, at some point in the dating process the bloke decides it’s time to hop in the sack and this takes the woman by surprise but I’m still not convinced.)
