Internet Question.

Anyone know of a purely internet based job out there? The wife is getting insanely bored with bar work and is looking for something to do. No technical skills, just English language and typing. Is there any work out there that can be done? I’m sort of assuming that data entry and the like is all done in India but is there anything that would provide a few crumbs?

Would appreciate any help that can be offered, any guidance.

  1. No skills, can type, English language, hey – sounds like she could be a blogger!
Tim adds: Yes, but, hoping for a little more than the $200 a month this blog brings in. Not a lot mind, but something.

  2. Media analysis worth a pop? My missus does a bit of that on the side – they send a load of press cuttings, she goes through summarising and prioritising according to the client’s needs. I’d imagine there’d be an internet-based equivalent going through news/business sites and the like – it’s the sort of thing that would require more brainpower than merely setting up automated RSS feeds and Google news alerts to ensure relevant selection.
God alone knows how you’d land a job doing it though…

  3. I agree with comment one, get her to try blogging for a while “Tales from the bar” sounds a good start. Once she has honed her skills I’m sure she will be headhunted. especially now that Radio5 is starting a blogging programme. Radio5 will be at The Sofa So Bar,515 Fulham Road, London,SW6 1HD. Telephone 020 7385 6403. Tomorrow at 7pm

  4. Don’t laugh, but there are a large number of assignments at Rentacoder that are actually completely non-technical and are nothing but writing. (ie “Write 500 words on caring for dogs”, or writing Google ads).

If she can edit – certain industries (the one I know about is the RPG industry) hire freelance editors who work entirely at home on electronic manuscripts. Likewise almost anything in the production chain (layout, etc)

  6. You want your wife to get a job in the UK, when the Government’s policies are geared toward outsourcing UK jobs to India, et al. You are a brave lad. I can just imagine you being on the “do not invite” lists maintained by the various political parties.
Tim adds: Well, no, we live in Portugal. That’s why her options here are so limited by language.

Has she thought of teaching English to Portuguese people?
