Free Booze! On The BBC! For Bloggers!

OK folks, spread this about a bit will you? Via Perfect Path and Saira’s Blog we get an offer of free booze from the BBC.

That’s Clare Chadburn, producer of the Radio Five Live show on blogging that Shaira (apparently I’m supposed to know her from The Apprentice. WTF?) is doing, the first one of which goes out on the 2nd October.

Now, according to the phone conversation I just had with Clare I’m not sure whether the booze really will be free…..she muttered something about a "BBC budget" ….but if you want to get in on this radio series (it will be a series and they will be having people on in the future to talk about blogs and why they do it etc) a good idea would be to get along to this booze up even if you do have to buy your own beer.

I imagine that Nosemonkey will be up for it, Alex? Natalie? Scott? Well, rather than name every blogger I know who’s in London why not just spread the word around eh?

Tee hee. Maybe we could get the massed commentariat of Biased BBC there? Or all 2,000 London Bloggers?

    Hmmm… this place? Looks expensive – if the booze isn’t free, that could be a problem (I always prefer “old and grimy” to “cool and trendy” anyway). And Fulham? Yuk. I shall have to ponder heavily whether to grace them with my delightful presence. They will, of course, be beside themselves without me – I don’t know how they’ll cope…

    Good thing I don’t pay it, not living in the UK anymore.
    Libertarian bloggers happy to get boozed on the back of the poor bloody taxpayer. And Tim doesn’t even live in the UK either.
    Tim adds: There are things about the BBC that are far worse. Max Hastings wrote about it once. Turning up to plug his new book on Parkinson (?) he was astonished to find that he would be paid 3 grand for it. Seriously, being paid to advertise your own product on national TV.

    Ah shame I am off to Chicago on official governmental businesses…
    I had a boss who refused to pay the TV license – if you don’t let them in your house, they can’t do their checks, they can’t fine you. They can’t detect whether you pick up TV or have one in your house anyway. Its all lies apparently. I made the mistake of buying one once, now I am trapped.
    But if I could make it I might try and eat and drink £130 worth of freebies…
    But really, if a lot of the bloggers are economists, does that make for a good night out?

    Maybe I should start blogging just so I can take the moral high ground and not go.
    Which raises the question, does the world need another, yet another, Anglo Australian blog(er)?

    No chance. This is definitely for those people who are enthusiastic about “blogging” in itself, and are willing to put up with being caricatured and patronised by the Beeb. Can’t say I’m either.
