When You Don’t Have to Read Any Further.

There are certain phrases that one comes across that mean that you don’t actually have to read the rest of the article, take seriously the writer’s arguments or even bother about their witterings. You know the sort of thing, "Bush equals Hitler", "Scientology knows…", "As Chomsky points out". One more for the list.

Totalitarian neoliberalism.

    How about “my son’s a good boy”: does one read on?
    (P.S. ITN news carries an interview with the mother of one of the (alleged) 7/7 bombers. “His wife hasn’t identified him, I haven’t identified him”: perhaps what happens to a suicide bomber hasn’t sunk in?

  3. “Moral equivalence” is another good one.

  4. “Moral clarity” too, which usually just means “what I think” ..

  5. ‘Human’ as in ‘the human face of the tragedy’ is another one.
    The ITV news seems to be very fond of ‘putting a human face’ on every story in leiu of actually telling us any new facts. It’s almost like they think we don’t know what it’s like to be bereaved.
