Stephen Byers Admits Lying to the House.

Rather a ho hum sort of moment unfortunately, politician lies, news at 10 sort of thing. But Byers has admitted, in court and under oath, that he lied to the House….and can’t remember why.

Mr Byers paused and said: "It was such a long time ago, I can’t
remember. But it is not a truthful statement and I apologise for that.
I cannot remember the motives behind it."

It is going to be interesting when we see the judgement in this case.

I really hope that we are not going to establish the legal principle that the standard of transparency and consultation demanded for nationalising an insolvent railway company is higher than that for sending British troops off to war, but I suspect we are.

  2. lieing to parliment is one of the worst things a minister can do there, Byers should resign. But he won’t.

  3. Resign as what dear heart?
He did resign, but only after a very protracted battle, and without any semblance of good grace, and ensuring that he took several other people down with him.
The more interesting question is: is he – or should he be – personally liable?
