You know all about the campaign to increase aid to poor countries. Some $175 billion a year is mooted. We’re supposed to hand it over, with no strings attatched, to people, well, here’s one of the poster boys of the campaign:
The African leader favoured with more British aid than
any other and selected by Tony Blair to promote Africa around the world
provoked outrage yesterday by championing President Robert Mugabe’s
regime in Zimbabwe.
President
Benjamin Mkapa of Tanzania exonerated Mr Mugabe of any blame for the
political violence, economic crisis and food shortages that have cost
hundreds of lives and impoverished millions of Zimbabweans.
Do you think my cynicism about whether this money is actually going to do much good is justified or not?
