The Brussels Echo Chamber.

Speech by Barroso yesterday:

Mr Barroso said: "I have three children: the economy, our social
agenda, and the environment. Like any modern father, if one of my
children is sick, I’m ready to drop everything and focus on him until
he is back to health. But that does not mean I love the others any
less."

Leave aside the known and provable fact that it is the EU which is actually causing all the problems and just think, where have we heard similar before? Ah, yes, the fragrant Margot:

Speaking of which: my collaborator had the best metaphor or comparison
for describing the interaction between the three parts of
sustainability (economic, social and environmental) and what it means
when we now say that we have to focus on jobs and growth. She said: “it
is like having three children, very often you have to focus on one of
them – but that does not mean that the other two are neglected or less
loved… you continue to care for all three of them…”

I wonder whether they ever interact with people outside this bubble? Or do the same phrases and thoughts simply get repeated until they all believe them? I think we might have an answer in the development of the blog of the delightful Ms. Walstrom. As EuroWeblogReview pointed out:

It concerns the tsunami, fado, and gaining weight over Christmas, and frankly it’s so nice I fear I may start floating tealights in my toilet cistern. This is Martha Stewart blogging, and I don’t think I like it.

Many of the comments (coff, coff,) have been a little more representative of reality than the rarified atmosphere of high bureaucracy so that might explain why there have been no additional postings in nearly a week.
