Interesting Royal gossip this morning.
According to newspaper reports Miss Phillips, 23, agreed to marry her
boyfriend Mike Tindall, the vice-captain of the England rugby team,
this month.
For Americans and others who do not know who these people are, Zara Phillips is the Queen’s grand-daughter, daughter of Princess Anne. Mike Tindall is this guy:

A member of the World Cup winning rugby team, and, far more importantly of course, a player at Bath rugby club (and occasional drinker at my local pub at home). Now this would be just gossip were it not for the fact that it is usually Princess Anne who performs the Royal duties at international rugby matches (she is President of the Scottish RFA I think) so in the near future we have the interesting idea that, as the Royal personage is being introduced to the teams, as happens before each match ("Yes, lovely day, what do you do and may the best team win" sort of stuff) one of those players will actually be being introduced to his own mother in law. (I’m pretty sure that it has happened that one of the players has been introduced to his own mother…Peter Phillips, Zara’s brother, has played for Scotland under 21’s.)
So, a little trivia question. Has this ever happened before? Has the team playing in an international ever before contained the son in law of the celebrity (Royal or whatever) who does the meet and greet with the teams and then presents the medals and prizes? Start with rugby and then work outwards to other sports (Equestrianism and polo are not allowed. We all know that they are infested with Royals, both as prize givers and competitors.) Lots of geek points for the winners.
