Robin Cook in the Guardian provides the usual dose of thoughtless witterings:
But an even deeper problem is that it is a matter of principle with the neoconservatives to resist any legally binding international agreement that constrains US options, especially in the world of business.
Umm, Robby m’boy. The major legally binding international agreement in the world of business is the World Trade Organisation. The US is a signatory and is bound by it. Steel subsidies? They removed them when the WTO ruled on the matter. Export tax credits? Congress has just changed the system as a result of a WTO case. Cotton subsidies? Working through the system but they’ll get there. Airbus subsidies and Boeing? Aren’t they trying to use the mechanism of the WTO to solve this?
This shows that the US resists any legally binding international agreement in the world of business in precisely what manner?
Sheesh, and to think that this man was once Foreign Secretary.
