I’m a little surprised to find that this blog is included in the BBC search engine. I’m actually more surprised to find out that the BBC actually runs a search engine. I don’t mean one for their own sites, that seems logical enough. No, the Beeb actually runs and maintains their own search engine of the web. Here’s their explanation:
The Internet can’t tell an 8-year-old from an 18-year-old, so we use a combination of technology and regular human checks to detect and block offensive websites. We aim to be the safest search engine in the UK. BBC Web Search is dedicated to serving a UK audience. We use special software to bring websites which are more relevant to people living, working and studying in the UK to the top of our search results. Our expert editors carry out research into popular topics and recommend the best websites available. We also highlight useful links from BBC News, Sport, Entertainment and Education.
So let me get this straight. An organisation that exacts a poll tax, that licence fee on ownership of a TV, one which jails welfare mothers by the boatload to maintain its grip upon the throat of the viewing public, takes the money from this state sponsored extortion racket and uses it to compete with friggin’ Google?
Oh, Dear Lord, roll on privatisatioon.
