How to Stamp Out Prostitution.

Some think prostitution should be legalised. Some that it should be prosecuted. Few argue that it should be strangled in red tape:

For those who have made a choice, albeit restricted, to sell sex, more needs to be done to improve their safety, to increase their access to sexual health and support services, and to extend their career choices. Labour says that it is proud of the things it has done to improve employment rights. Those who opt to sell sex deserve the same workplace rights and protection that the government has extended to others.

  1. Nevada would be a nice example of that.

  2. Hi Tim,
You are absolutely right. Right now they are debating a legislation in India whether or not to legalise the world’s oldest profession. I think they should be legalised – being underpriveledged and marginalised they certainly deserve some respect for being human beings and need to be protected against exploitation. Legislation should be humaniatarian and not just driven by what is seemingly good or bad

I’m all for legalisation. I’m not so sure about the Guardian writer’s insistence upon “career development” nor the addition of health and safety officers. But that’s because these sorts of things have become a joke here in the UK. For example, today we had a report about a shooting some months back. The police and ambulance men would not go within 5 miles of the house for over an hour becasue health and safety regulations said they shouldn’t. The gunman might still be around. Two people bled to death.
