Markets in Everything.

One for Tyler and Alex and their insistence that there are markets in everything:

Providing illicit lovers with alibis has become a lucrative industry that is spreading across Europe and is now heading for Britain. Despite criticism from the Catholic Church, German “alibi agencies” are faking the evidence needed to convince suspicious spouses that their clients have been at seminars or late-night meetings, not with their lovers.

The company apparently emplys 170 people to provide this service. Of course, they are not “real jobs”, manufacturing something, they’re “McJobs” as the saying goes. Not quite sure why that distinction is supposed to matter, after all, 70 % of employment in the economy is in services. As the owner points out:

“We are just providing a modern service in a modern world.”
