Euro 2004 Hooligan Leader Gets Off.

BWAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Splurt, sniff giggle.
Sorry, I shouldn’t laugh too much as I live down here amongst these 50,000 or whatever soccer fans for the tournament. And I like Portugal and the Portuguese and most certainly wouldn’t want to mess with any of the riot police. As a matter of fact one of the local bouncers is ex police, thrown out for prisoner brutality. Yes, what he did was worse than Abu Ghraib: permanent physical damage to the suspect in his custody.
Anyway, sorry going a little off subject there.
A few days ago an English hooligan got picked up by the Portuguese police, charged tried and sentenced within 12 hours. Two year jail sentence. OK, need to make an example at the beginning of the tournament. Then, under Council of Europe rules (no, this isn’t the EU, different bunch) he will serve his sentence in the UK rather than a Portuguese jail. Again OK. However, they were supposed to take him back to the jail here, where he could apply to serve his sentence in the UK, then he’d be moved. Instead, they threw him on the plane immediately, right after sentencing.
Upshot? He doesn’t have to serve his sentence.
