is following the Oil for Food scandal in his inimitable style. The whole thing doesn’t surprise me at all, we’ve been hearing about this ever since George Galloway got accused of various things a year ago.
I used to think the UN was worthwhile, then I actually saw it close up. In the early 90’s I was at a computer conference and ran into one of the UNDP guys, and he asked if I would be willing, at their expense, to go to conferences and talk about the opportunities for offshoring of programming. Sure, of course, promote my business at someone else’s expense ? Not a tough question that.
Then I met the UN bureaucracy. In order to get an expenses only, non paid, position, it would take a 14 month fight with the Human Resources department.
I’ve not paid much attention to the UN since then.
