Via Blognor Regis comes this extract from The Times.
the moment those cameras light up, the commissioners begin preening and posing like old women at a nursing home upon hearing that Cliff Richard is going serenade the prettiest one with a verse of Living Doll.
Of course, such behaviour is inevitable if you give a bunch of activists and politicians a blank cheque and subpoena power to say “this must never happen again” over and over. The investigation into the intelligence failures that led to the attack on the twin towers has been the perfect storm of pomposity and righteousness. The grief voluptuaries in the media allowed a handful of politicised 9/11 widows to drive the coverage. The Democrats sought every opportunity to make the commission entirely about President Bush’s eight months in office rather than President Clinton’s eight years. And the public chose to gawk at the spectacle like rubberneckers at a car crash.
I’ve not heard of Jonah Goldberg before, he looks worth following though eh ?
( What ? An Englishman who doesn’t read The Times ? Yes. The online version, if you live outside the UK, is a paid for only service. Simply not interested in supporting that internet model. What really bugs me is there is a letter of mine in their archives and I want a copy, but am not prepared to pay 39 quid to get it.)
