Faux Bar Mitzvahs

Joanne Jacobs comments on a slightly strange practise of non Jewish children demanding faux bar and bat mitzvahs, which as us multicultural types know is a Jewish ceremony marking the passage from child to adult.
Hhhmm. Sounds like a good idea really. Perhaps those few of us left of a christian cultural background might try to do something similar. We’d need to change it around a little, call it something different, you know, try and invent some ceremony which marked the same event, but which is culturally ours, and ours alone. Rather as various African Americans have done with Kwanzaa.
It’ll be difficult to come up with a name, something specific, that can’t be misinterpreted or adopted by others.

How about ” Confirmation ” ?
